From cleanroom collaboration to photonic microphone progress: PIONEAR releases its third newsletter

The PIONEAR consortium has released the third edition of its project newsletter, sharing the latest progress towards the development of a novel photonic microphone with better-than-human-ear sound quality.

This issue highlights recent achievements from across the consortium. Lumiary reports on its new collaboration with Myfab and the Ångström Laboratory in Uppsala, providing access to advanced micro- and nanofabrication infrastructure to support the development of the next-generation lab prototype and scalable production methods. Technical updates are also included from Tyndall National Institute at University College Cork, VIGO Photonics, Lodz University of Technology, Eastern Switzerland University of Applied Sciences, and Łukasiewicz Institute of Microelectronics and Photonics.

The newsletter also looks back at PIONEAR’s 7th General Assembly, held from 16 to 17 June 2026 in Uppsala, Sweden. Hosted by Lumiary, the meeting brought partners together to review progress, discuss technical priorities and coordinate next steps. A key highlight was the consortium’s visit to the Myfab Cleanroom at Ångström Laboratory, where partners gained insight into advanced cleanroom-based fabrication capabilities.

In addition, readers can learn more about two PIONEAR partners: Eastern Switzerland University of Applied Sciences and Lodz University of Technology. The issue also features PIONEAR’s first peer-reviewed publication in tm – Technisches Messen, as well as recent conference contributions at SPIE Photonics West 2026.

Finally, the newsletter presents upcoming events in the field of optics, laser physics and semiconductor lasers where PIONEAR partners will participate.
